As a big Twilight fan during my teen years, I may be biased, but a good vampire book will do wonders for the soul. So much so, that I loved two of these books so much that they made it into my top 5 favourite books! If you had to ask me to pick one book from our shop to recommend, it'd be one of those two.
The yearning, the years of torture, but also the theme of women becoming strong and confident in themselves... what more could you want? Each one of these books had me hooked from the start, I fell in love with the characters and the writing, their stories had me emotionally invested every step of the way. So here are my top 3 favourite gothic vampire books that you'll want on your TBR.
Bury Our Bones in The Midnight Soil by V.E.Schwab
A dark gothic story that follows three women across three different timelines, all with the same desire... to break the rules men use to bind them.
This book had me emotionally invested in all three womens stories, their character growth was done brilliantly and the writing was so beautifully poetic.
Lucy Undying by Kiersten White
Lucy Undying is a Dracula novel that follows Lucy Westenra, one of Dracula's first victims. This is a fantastic retelling of what might have been for her, as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and self-love.
This book threw me even deeper into my obsession with gothic vampire novels, I got through it so quickly and was gutted when it ended... You know when the book is so good that when it finishes you wonder how you'll cope without those characters in your life? That was how I felt.
Hungerstone by Kat Dunn
I was drawn in by Hungerstone as it's set in the Peak District, where I live. Kat Dunn has written a fantastic sapphic reworking of Carmilla that captures the characters appetite and desire perfectly.
